Background:

I was trained and worked for 17 years as a nutritionist involved in teaching and technical writing.   The skills aquired in my early career I now apply to my interest as a Fiber arts instructor.

  •  Quilting Experience: I have been quilting since 1979 and began teaching quilting in 1999.  I teach regularly at local quilt shops and  regional quilt guilds.  I have also been an instructor at Quiltfest, a three day quilting conference, in Jonesborough, TN for the last 8 years.  We have an enthusiastic quilting community where I live in East Tennesse.  I am active in several area guilds, the American Quilters Society, and regularly participate in regional and national quilt shows.

  • Knitting Experience: I learned to knit at the age of  7 in an after school program at the YMCA.  With more than 25 years knitting experience, I began teaching knitting, also in 1999.  When my own children entered elementary school, I began teaching children toknit.  Over 100 elementary and middle school students have learned to knit as part of my after school club programs.  I also teach in local fiber shops, community sponsored programs and for home school groups.  Through extensive self study and workshops with national designers, I strive to keep current with new trends as they emerge.

It is important to keep abreast of new techniques and ideas.  Quilting and Knitting are fiber arts that continue to see exciting changes each year.  I am committed to staying informed and experimenting with new ideas to share with my classes.

My Fiber arts philosophy!

Fiber arts, especially the design process, stimulate the mind.  Quilters and knitters are intelligent people.  We want to be intrigued and not bored, excited but not exhausted. I won’t do things the hard way if an easier way is equally attractive. But rarely am I attracted to “mindless" quilting or knitting.  Often the little details are what make a design one we’ll really enjoy.  Of course, depending on experience, each quilter/knitter can be intrigued and excited by different levels of complexity.  I conduct workshops for the beginner through advanced fiber artist.  By building a strong foundations of varied techniques, skillfully executed, we can all become

  "Moore Creative".
