Knitting Classes
Learn to knit by taking a knitting class!  I teach beginner through advanced knitting classes for kids and adults.  Knitting lessons in basic skills, cables, color work,  entrelac,  continental knitting and more.

Kids Knitting - See what you can do with two sticks and some string!  Create knitted cord on a knitting spool to use as a rope, belts, or hair ties.  Make your own knitting needles and learn the basics of knitting, including cast on, the knit stitch and bind off.  Students will soon be knitting small items like beanbags and scarves.  keep them or give them as gifts.  A fun class for boys and girls ages 8 and up. (6 sessions, 1 hour each)

Beginning Knitting - This class is designed for adults and youth who are just beginning to knit or who are beginning again and want to refresh their basic skills.  Learn about the current tools, yarns and knitting terms.  This class covers casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, combination stitches, binding off, calculating gauge, sewing seams and more. (6 hours)

Intermediate knitting -   Designed for those who have learned the basics and are ready to progress.  The focus of this class is to assist students in choosing and completing a knitted project. Intermediate techniques such as binding off shoulders, simple cables, buttonholes, picking up dropped stitches, and finishing techniques are included.  Topics can be adjusted depending on class experience and projects.  (6 hours)

Color Play - Fair Isle, intarsia, and slip stitch - Beyond beginning.  Learn the techniques of adding colorful interest to your garments.  Each session teaches the skill needed for a different color method while knitting a sample piece.  Design ideas and suggestions for small practice items are included.  Color Play can be taught as one course or presented as seperate classes.  (3 or 6 hours)

Entrelac Beyond beginning.  Create the woven look in your knitted items with this patchwork-like technique. Two or more contrasting colors, knit one at a time, create the illusion.  Learn to read and knit patterns using this technique.  Suggestions for small practice projects are included. (3 or 6 hours)

Doing the Continental – All levels. Learn to knit with the left hand.  Whether you’re a southpaw or not you can use this technique to increase your knitting speed.  A great advantage when knitting with two colors of yarn at the same time such as in Fair Isle knitting.  Carry a different color in each hand and the colors fly!  Taught by a right handed person that knits left handed… we all can do this! ( 3 hours)

The Cable Connection Beyond beginning.  Add textural interest to your knitted items with cables.  We will knit basic right and left twisted cables, as well as several variations.  Learn to interpret and follow cable graph patterns and written instructions and abbreviations.  When you see how easy cables can be you’ll want to add a little twist to all your sweater projects! (3 or 6 hours)

Knitted AppliqueBeyond beginning. Add the pizzazz of three dimension appeal to your hand knit or store bought items with knitted applique.  Knit flowers, leaves, stems and more from Nicky Epstein’s book “Knitted Embellishments”.   Quick to knit pieces make great use of small amounts of yarn.   Carry these little projects wherever you go, they fit in a zip lock bag! (3 or 6 hours)
