Quilting Classes
Learn to quilt by taking a quilting class! I offer quilting classes in machine piecing and machine applique, traditional and contemporary quilting styles, postcard quilts and fabric knitting.
6 hour classes
The ABC’s of Quilting – A class for the very beginning quilter, topics include a discussion of tools, terms, and fundamental quilting techniques. Learn what to consider when choosing fabrics, the proper use of rotary cutters and rulers, and accuracy in piecing several simple quilt blocks. At the end of this class you will have the knowledge and confidence to start a quilt on your own or as part of another quilt class.
Basic Machine Applique – All levels. Learn the techniques of invisible machine applique, satin stitch applique and much more. Includes a discussion of needles, appropriate threads, stabilizers, fusible web products, tension and presser feet. Samples of each technique will be made in class to build your skill. You will leave knowing the method that is right for you and your next project. Make the class sample or another project of your choice.
Beginning Machine Quilting – Your quilt tops are stacking up, you don’t have time to hand quilt them all, but you haven’t felt comfortable machine quilting them yourself …this is the class for you! Designed for the beginning machine quilter, this class covers all the basics to get you started. We’ll discuss thread and batting choices, learn how to mark and baste a quilt, and spend a lot of time practicing straight line and free motion quilting. You’ll be ready to machine quilt your own quilts in no time! Beginning machine quilters.
The Floral Heart – A basic heart shape makes a romantic wall hanging using a simplified watercolor techniques. Choose a 1-3 fabrics and fusible gridded interfacing for a fun design oriented class. Included is a discussion of suitable fabrics, blending techniques and fabric placement. The results are simple, fast and beautiful! All levels
The Carpenters Wheel – All levels. There are so many ways to make a half triangle square! This class teaches several techniques. Choose your favorite as we make this traditional quilt block. The sample is made up of four carpenters wheel blocks for a beautiful throw quilt, or keep going and make it full sized.
Woven Wearables – All levels. Use your favorite vest pattern to make a woven and embellished vest. Fusible interfacing makes layout simple, so you have more time to cut curves, weave and play with all the different stitches on your sewing machine.
Foundation Paper Piecing - New York Beauty – All levels. Learn to use foundation piecing to make a stunning wall hanging or larger quilt. Achieve perfect points and gentle curves the easy way by the stitch and flip method. Even complex patterns can be precisely easily pieced. The class sample is done in Batiks and hand dyed fabrics but would be beautiful in any fabric collection as a scrap quilt or with a coordinated color scheme. Quilt shop owners may wish to make patterns and kits available.
Pineapple Quilts - The pineapple block looks stunning but is really quite easy! The new Pineapple Rule by Possibilities makes it even faster. We will work on a simple variation of this traditional pattern using three fabrics per block; or you may chose to go wild with scraps! All levels.
Feathered Star – The Radiant Star pattern is one of the easiest of feathered star variations and is the featured project of this class. It can be a wall hanging, or the start of your next heirloom quilt. If you have made a few projects and are ready for a challenge that is well worth the effort, this is it! Beyond beginners.

Quilted Postcards – These quick and fun little quilts are all the rage. Sew up a bundle of baby announcements, make your next Christmas cards really special, or send a birthday wish that won’t be soon forgotten. Use a pattern from a book or design your own with a few scraps and some embellishments. And yes, they really can be mailed! All levels.
Fabric Knitting - Knitting is still the hot “new” craft so why not give it a try and knit some of your fabric stash? Our featured project is a fantastic fabric shoulder bag that will refresh your knitting skills. Beginning knitters might want to learn to knit by making a beautiful fabric scarf. Big needles and beautiful fabric make either choice fun and fast! All levels.
